MARC/NAHRO ANNUAL MEETING & TRADE SHOW

May 4th - 6th, 2008

Mark your calendars for the Annual MARC/NAHRO Conference and Trade Show.  The conference will be held at the Marriott’s Seaview Resort in Absecon, New Jersey Sunday through Tuesday May 4 - 6, 2008.  There will be a Scholarship Golf Tournament on Tuesday May 6th .

In the past we have had such great speakers as HUD Secretary Cisneros, Assistant Secretary Liu, Senator Lautenberg and Congressman Pallone.  This year Assistant Secretary for Public and Indian Housing, Orlando Cabrera has confirmed his attendance.  We have also invited long time supporter, Senator Frank Lautenberg and Robert Menendez.  In addition we hope to see Representative Rodney Frelinghuysen, New Jersey Department of Community Affairs Commissioner Joseph Doria, HUD Regional Director of Region II, Milton Pratt, NAHRO Executive Director Saul Ramirez and NAHRO President Renee Rooker.

There will be pre-Conference trainings offered in Tax Credit Essentials, Board Member Fundamentals, and UPCS Protocol.  On Sunday noon there will be a Luncheon with State, regional and the NAHRO President.  There will then be sessions on Energy Performance Contracting, Congregate and Assisted Living Facilities, a full day of Commissioner’s Leadership Training, Maintenance Repairs and a session on how to Lower Your REAC Score. Assistant Secretary Orlando Cabrera will open the Conference with a frank discussion of the financial future facing all housing authorities.  On Monday there will be sessions on International Affairs, continuation of the Commissioner’s Leadership Training, Green Building & LEEDS, Project-Based Accounting and Asset management for Small Agencies, and Low Income Housing Tax Credits & Affordable Housing Development.  There will also be sessions in the afternoon on Affordable Homeowners – How to Make It Work, Ask the Answer Man and the HUD Inspector General from Washington, DC will present a session on Fraud, Waste and Mismanagement.    In addition, there will be a bus tour of Atlantic City’s newest housing and redevelopment projects in the Marina and central business districts.  Monday evening we will go to the Borgata, Atlantic City’s newest casino and have dinner and some gambling.

The Closing session will be Tuesday morning and will feature Senator Frank Lautenberg and or Senator Robert Menendez, Commissioner Joseph Doria, New Jersey Department of Community Affairs and Diane Johnson, HUD State Director for New Jersey.

These sessions have been developed to provide staff as well as Executive Directors, Commissioners and Attorneys with the tools and strategies you will need to build a more effective and efficient organization.

In addition, there will be Exhibitors displaying quality products and services and many opportunities to meet and discuss with them your specific problems and/ or concerns.

Coupled with the outstanding response to our past Conferences, we know that the demand will once again be overwhelming.  Early notice is being sent to you so that you are not shutout.

We have only been able to reserve a block of 125 rooms for Sunday and Monday evenings.  Many people were unable to reserve a room at the Seaview or even attend the conference last time we were there because they did not register early enough.

Reservation forms are attached, and additional information will be forwarded within the next several weeks.  You may register by mailing or faxing the registration form.  However, your registration will not be valid until payment is received.  Registration is strictly limited in each course.
