	UN Luncheon
	On May 8, at the closing of the 2006 Annual Conference, MARC-NAHRO co-hosted a luncheon meeting at the United Nations Headquarters in NYC.    MARC and NAHRO leadership and staff met with UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) representatives to finalize the appointment of official NAHRO representatives for the Non-Government Organization (NGO) status recently awarded NAHRO.    NGO status allows NAHRO and UN associated organizations to participate in each others' housing and community development programs and ventures with a "pre-approved" status.  For example, Julio Barreto, Department Head - Development, Special Initiatives & International Affairs, recently participated in a UN World Urban Forum. 	PAHRA (PA Housing and Redevelopment Association) is celebrating its 50th anniversary at its conference on October 29-November 1, 2006 at Nemacolin Woodlands, south of Pittsburgh.  MARC-NAHRO congratulates PAHRA, its leadership and members, for a half-century of dedicated service.

	Member Column: Commissioners as a Positive Force for Change
	Joining any new board can be a challenge or should be, given the new responsibilities, extensive specialized language and jargon, departments, established protocol,  who’s who, titles and funding sources, federal & state committees of importance that surround a  board.    When a Commissioner comes “aboard a board”, so to speak, backgrounds differ, thus requiring a broad-based or very individualized introduction.  Facing the changing environment of today’s Local Housing Authority, boards are recruiting a wide range of experience and professionalism.  Specific talents, as well as community connected individuals with a deep commitment to affordable housing, comprise a dynamic board that can work with Executive Directors from a variety of management styles, backgrounds and personalities.
