PROFESSIONAL TOUR

PUBLIC HOUSING TOUR
Saturday, May 6
1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

A short bus ride from the hotel to Lower Manhattan, the housing tour will begin with First Houses, the nation’s first public housing development (rehab of tenements) completed in 1936, and the Lower East Side III, an example of a recent low-rise development (new construction) completed in 1997, which consists of walk-in apartments off the street accessible for the disabled, and walk-up simplex and duplex apartments above. It will feature the newly completed Police Service Area building, located adjacent to LES III, that was designed by the New York City Housing Authority and is home of the Housing Bureau of the New York City Police Department. The tour will also drive by Ground Zero.

There will be an opportunity to sign up for the housing tour at the 4th floor Registration Table on Saturday until noon. Attendees will meet in the hotel lobby (1st floor/West 45th Street side of building). Space is limited. Please plan to arrive by 12:45 p.m. Free with full conference registration.

 

ANNUAL CONFERENCE KEYNOTE SPEAKER

This years Annual Conference keynote speaker is Ms. Jerilyn Perine. Jerilyn Perine is an urban planner with more than 25 years of experience in housing and community development in New York City’s neighborhoods. Appointed by both Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and Mayor Michael Bloomberg to lead America’s largest municipal housing agency with more than 2500 employees and an annual operating and capital budget of $800 million.

Before being appointed Commissioner of the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development in September 2000, where she served until March 2004, Ms. Perine held a variety of positions in housing and community development including Assistant Commissioner for Homeless Housing Development and First Deputy Commissioner for Policy and Planning.
