MARC/NAHRO Annual Meeting & Trade Show

May 1st – 3rd, 2011

Mark your calendars for the Annual MARC/NAHRO Conference and Trade Show. The conference will be held at the Atlantic City Hilton Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey Sunday through Tuesday May 1 - 3, 2011. There will be a Scholarship Golf Tournament on Sunday May 1st.

In the past we have had such great speakers as HUD Secretary Cisneros, Assistant Secretary Liu, Senator Lautenberg and Congressman Pallone. This year Assistant Secretary for Public and Indian Housing, Orlando Cabrera had confirmed his attendance, and we are waiting to hear who the next Secretary will be. We have also invited long time supporter, Senator Frank Lautenberg and Robert Menendez. In addition we hope to see Representative Rodney Frelinghuysen, New Jersey Department of Community Affairs Commissioner, HUD Regional Director of Region II, Adolfo Carrión, Jr, NAHRO Executive Director Saul Ramirez and NAHRO President Akinola Popoola.

There will be pre-Conference trainings offered and on Sunday afternoon there will be a golf outing. Starting on Monday there will be sessions on Energy Performance Contracting, Congregate and Assisted Living Facilities, Commissioner’s Leadership Training, Maintenance Repairs and a session on how to Lower Your REAC Score. HUD’s Assistant Secretary will open the Conference at noon with a frank discussion of the financial future facing all housing authorities. There will also be sessions on International Affairs, Green Building & LEEDS, Project-Based Accounting and Asset Management for Small Agencies, Low Income Housing Tax Credits and Affordable Housing Development. On Tuesday there will be sessions in the on Affordable Homeownership — How to Make It Work, Partnering with Others— the Habitat Model, Community development Issues and the HUD Inspector General from Washington, DC will present a session on Fraud, Waste and Mismanagement. In addition, there will be a bus tour of Atlantic City’s newest housing and redevelopment projects in the Marina and central business districts. Monday evening there will be a networking reception and Tuesday evening everyone will be given a voucher to be used for the Buffet at one of the nearby hotels.

Throughout the Conference there will be opportunities at breakfast, lunch and during the receptions to meet the Exhibitors who will be displaying quality products and services. In addition, at the Tuesday luncheon there will be raffles, prizes and the Grand Prize of a Big Screen TV given away.

All of the sessions have been developed to provide staff as well as Executive Directors, Commissioners and Attorneys with the tools and strategies you will need to build a more effective and efficient organization.

Coupled with the outstanding response to our past Conferences, we know that the demand will once again be overwhelming. Early notice is being sent to you so that you are not shutout.

We have only been able to reserve a block of 125 rooms for Sunday and Monday evenings. Many people were unable to reserve a room the last time we were in Atlantic City or even attend the conference last time we were there because they did not register early enough.

Reservation forms will be coming out in the late fall, and additional information will be forwarded within the next several months. You may register by mailing or faxing the registration form. However, your registration will not be valid until payment is received. Registration is strictly limited in each course.
